Lowell Klock and Heidemarie Heiss-Holmes present session for Stowe area teachers
At the request of Cacky Peltz, Art Educator from the Lamoille South Supervisory Union, Lowell and Heidemarie shared the work of ARTT students, teacher, and artist mentors on November 23, 2004. Attending the session were: Michelle Boleski, art teacher at Warren, Fayston, Granville Village Elementary Schools; Susannah Slabinski, art teacher, Peoples Academy, Morrisville; Ruth Kaldor, art teacher Cabot K-12; Kathleen Nann, tech curriculum coordinator, Stowe; and Mark Arnold, tech media from Morrisville. Participants read panels of student work from the Chaffee Show and were given a tour of the ARTT web site.
The workshop participants were given temporary access to the password protected web site. The posting process was explained and they all learned to navigate, collapse, go forward and backward, to make comments, edit and delete. Workshop participants were encouraged to comment on student work on the site. Heidemarie, an elementary art educator and occasional mentor, described how she went about ARTT posting with her students. Several students with interest in sharing art work on the password protected web site. meet at recess or other non class times. They discuss their work, ask questions, and prepare a write-up for the mentoring site. Heidemarie discusses each piece with the young artist and then posts the piece. Once comments are received from mentors, she will work with students to revise their art work and post the revision along with more description about the changes made and questions that still remain. At the end of this cycle, the student will acknowledge the comments. Heidemarie mentioned that this process is a trimester's work. After viewing the posting and responding cycle, the group mentioned that this was a good program for enrichment and/or for students who need motivation. Heidemarie prints out her students' threads for a bulletin board display for the whole school to view and keeps the printed threads on file. |
New Co-Coordinators Appointed
Penny Nolte's new job and personal obligations have led her to resign as coordinator of ARTT and from the Board of Directors of Vermont MIDI/ARTT Project, Inc. The Board of Directors appointed Lian Brehm and Jan Danziger as co-coordinators at a special meeting on November 2, 2003. We all wish Penny well and thank her for her years of work on behalf of visual arts educators, music educators, and professional artists. Lian and Jan will work diligently to provide leadership and continuity that Penny previously supplied. |
ARTT Video is Available

ARTT Teacher and Mentor Present at National Conference
Marty Leech, Art Teacher at Missisquoi Valley Union High School, and Graciela Monteagudo, ARTT Artist/Mentor, lead a panel session at the Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education (SITE) conference that was recently held in Orlando. Their session, titled Art Responding Through Technology, was very well attended and resulted in requests for additional information about ARTT from as far away as Alaska. Marty and Graciela presented a Power Point display, the ARTT video, and examples of student work from the ARTT showcase. |
"In 1995 the US Department of Education provided funds through the Technology Innovation Challenge Grant program to Vermont schools via the WEB Project to build an innovative online network of students, teachers, artists, and community organizations working together to help improve student performance in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Online Arts Mentoring in music composition (VT MIDI Project) and visual arts (Art Responding Through Technology--ARTT) formed the first two groups."
